Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo formally opened and wished the thousands of athletes from the 50 provinces, cities and municipalities of Eastern, Western and Central Visayas regions the best of luck to this year’s edition of Batang Pinoy jointly hosted by the city and the province of Negros Oriental under the auspices of the Philippine Sports Commission.

The opening ceremony held at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex, Friday after a parade of delegations. Also in attendance are Councilors Lilani Ramon, Michael Bandal, Alan Gel Corodova, Officials of Deped City Division, Assistant City Administrator Dinno T. Depositario and other top officials of PSC

PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram also greeted the delegations and acknowledged the efforts of the host to work with the commission for the successful staging of the sports event.

Some 3, 000 athletes will compete in eighteen sports events starting today (Saturday) Archery at NORSU Bajumpandan Campus; Arnis at the NORSU Main Campus; Athletics at the Perdices Coliseum; Badminton, Riverside Court; Baseball, RUSI Ball field; Basketball, City High School Gym, Boxing, Tinago covered court; Chess, convention center; dance sport, Macias Sports Complex; Karatedo, convention center; tennis, Praxevilla tennis court; pencak silat, motong covered court; sepak takraw, Talay covered court; softball, RUSI Ballfield; swimming, Lorenzo Teves Memorial Aqua Center; table tennis, convention center; taekwondo, convenrion center; volleyball, Foundation University Gym and Beach Volleyball, beach court Rizal Boulevard.
