Dumaguete City lines up program for vibrant tourism industry in 2014-PIA News
DUMAGUETE CITY, -Dumaguete City has lined up several programs and events this year to ensure a vibrant tourism industry and increase visitors in the city. It sets three major plans for tourism promotion that would open the city to various countries in the world.
City Tourism Officer Woodrow Maquiling Jr said these strategies include the revamp of the city’s brochure, on-ground advertising and online services.
Maquiling said the city will employ EZ Map, the number one brochure maker in the Philippines, to make the new brochures.
“This will be cheaper and efficient since brochures made by EZ Map are sold and circulated all over the country,” added Maquiling.
For on-ground advertising centers on marketing, the cities in Cebu and Bacolod including Boracay will be tapped. Lamppost banners of Dumaguete will be placed in the those areas to make Dumaguete City the next destination choice of local and foreign tourists.
Maquiling said the city will also go into the online media platform this year to make the city appear such as in Cebu Pacific and Choose Philippines, two of the heavily visited online sites for tourists.
He added another plan is to promote the city as educational tourism destination with a city-operated museum that will house all of the city’s rich cultural heritage.
Dumaguete City has a sisterhood agreement with Andong City in Korea and an on-going talk for a possible sister-city in California, U.S.A. which strengthen the ties and increase investments in each city through tourism.
A robust tourism sector can fuel up the economy that provides more jobs in local communities as well as raise the local profile as a premier tourist destination, said Maquiling.
Meantime, the city is also planning to hold a competition on tourism video among major universities here based on the theme and concept. (PIA News with reports from Kristine Cassandra Azcona, SU Intern)
